Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Tariq Lamptey and Tottenham’s interest in the Brighton ace.

The full-back was strongly linked with a move away from the Amex last month, and Spurs were touted as potential suitors for the defender.

However, Lamptey ended up staying at Brighton, and as an Arsenal legend, Wright is very happy that the youngster didn’t end up joining Spurs.

What’s Wright said about Lamptey?

The pundit says he’s glad Lamptey didn’t end up at Tottenham.

“You know what, I heard a lot of Tottenham fans going crazy that they didn’t sign Tariq Lamptey,” Wright said.

“As two Arsenal fans, I’m quite happy that Tottenham didn’t sign Lamptey,” Wright’s co-host said.

“I’m quite happy as well like, because I cannot believe that nobody has tried to pry that man out of Brighton. The thing with him is, he made his debut off the bench against Arsenal for Chelsea and he was literally the best player on the pitch. The only reason he didn’t make it at Chelsea was because Reece James is there,” Wright concluded.

Frightening

We can absolutely understand why Wright is happy that Lamptey didn’t join Spurs in January.

The ‘amazing’ defender has all of the attributes to be an absolute star in the Premier League, and if Antonio Conte had gotten his hands on him, he could have completely transformed Tottenham.

Luckily for Arsenal and Wright, their biggest rivals didn’t get hold of Lamptey this time around, but don’t be surprised if those links re-emerge in the summer window.
