Kaveh Solhekol has been speaking live on Sky Sports about Georginio Wijnaldum, where he made an interesting claim involving Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, the Sky Sports reporter believes Wijnaldum wants to return to the Premier League, and would also be open to joining Arsenal.

Solhekol said: “I’m pretty convinced he wants to return to the Premier League and that he would want to play for Arsenal. Arsenal would be very high up on the list of clubs he would like to play for.”

Wijnaldum left Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain back in June, although he has found life tough in France under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 85-cap Netherlands international has scored just one goal in 17 Ligue 1 appearances, and by the sounds of things, he misses England.

According to AS, Newcastle have made contact with PSG in regards to re-signing their former midfielder, and Wijnaldum is said to be interested.

After the Saudi Arabian takeover, the Magpies pose a real financial threat to Arsenal in this transfer battle, should it come down to a two-horse race.

Should Arsenal sign Wijnaldum?

In our view, a player like Wijnaldum is the missing piece in Mikel Arteta’s system.

The 31-year-old is incredibly underrated, and his work off the ball helped Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side tick for many years.

Wijnaldum is a fantastic ball carrier, so he is key in transitions from defence into attack.

The Rotterdam-born maestro is also an intelligent player who recognises where he needs to fill in if a teammate has pushed forward.

In our view, his selflessness was a key factor behind the success of Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alongside a towering physical presence in Thomas Partey, Arsenal would have a brilliant blend of talent in midfield.

If Wijnaldum really does want to leave PSG, Arsenal have to get involved.
