What a second-half performance from Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side looked a totally different team after the break during their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Merseyside.

Bizarrely, all four goals were scored during an enthralling second-half display from both sides.

Liverpool didn’t play like Premier League title candidates during a sluggish opening 45 minutes in which Pep Guardiola’s side dominated.

But whatever Klopp said during the break clearly worked and Andy Gray, speaking to BeIN Sport, shares what the German did the second he heard the half-time whistle, claiming that he sprinted down the tunnel once Paul Tierney blew up.

He told BeIN Sport: “What has surprised me is Liverpool’s awful retention of the football. They’ve been really poor. I’m not surprised Klopp has run down that tunnel. I think he’ll be taking the paint off the walls in that dressing room. I think he’ll be so annoyed.”

Klopp is one of the sport’s most respected and decorated coaches for a reason and we saw it tonight.

Had Liverpool played in the second half like they did in the first, City, the reigning Premier League champions, would’ve continued to slaughter them.

But the former Borussia Dortmund coach was astute enough to know where the Reds were second best – and, crucially, respected enough among the players so that his instructions were followed.

Mo Salah thought he had found the winner with a sublime solo goal after Phil Foden cancelled out Sadio Mane’s opener.

But Guardiola isn’t bad at this coaching lark either and Kevin de Bruyne rescued a point for the visitors late on.
