Chelsea have made a busy start to the summer transfer window with seven new signings joining Enzo Maresca’s squad.

The Blues have invested heavily in their squad since Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022 but it is yet to translate into on-pitch results.

Chelsea are now looking to start fresh under Enzo Maresca and the owners at Stamford Bridge have once again reached into their pocket to back him with new signings.

They have splashed the cash to bring in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley while Tosin Adarabioyo also joined on a free transfer.

As revealed by HITC, Chelsea have now struck a £20million deal to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen. He is set to become the club’s seventh signing of the summer.

Stewart Robson on Filip Jorgensen deal

Jorgensen is set to join a goalkeeping department at Chelsea that also includes Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues are still hoping to offload Kepa to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal and West Ham star Stewart Robson has given his verdict on the deal for Jorgensen and he is less than impressed.

Speaking on ESPN, Robson said “I wouldn’t say it’s a priority. You can’t keep saying every season that we’re not happy with the goalkeeper so let’s get a new one in.

“I think they’re much of a muchness – I saw Jorgensen have two very good games for Villarreal, I also saw him have a couple of poor games.

“Is he going to be any better than the others? I’m not sure he is. Chelsea have tried and tried to change the goalkeepers after Petr Cech and Courtois and it has never quite worked for them.”

Chelsea’s goalkeeper problem

Chelsea now have three or four goalkeepers who may all want minutes next season.

While depth and competition for places is good, the goalkeeper position is not one that any manager will be keen to rotate and change often.

But Maresca now runs the risk of upsetting squad players by leaving them out and pushing them down the pecking order.

Too many cooks spoil the broth and Jorgensen’s arrival means Chelsea must find a way to thin their goalkeeping department this summer.
