Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy has some doubts about Aston Villa signing Youri Tielemans.

Aston Villa brought in Youri Tielemans from Leicester City on a free transfer during the summer window, so it looks like a good piece of business.

However, Murphy, who has been speaking on FIVE, is not sure if the 26-year-old covers enough yards on the pitch.

What has Danny Murphy said about Youri Tielemans?

Discussing Villa’s acquisition of Tielemans, Murphy said: “I’m not sure on Tielemans, you know. Super talented, but I’m not sure he puts the graft in.”

Tielemans has played in all four of Villa’s Premier League games so far this season but is yet to start a match in the top flight for his new club.

The midfielder was a key player for Leicester last term, making just over 30 league appearances.

However, with the Foxes getting relegated to the Championship and his contract expiring, Unai Emery was able to snap him up.

Youri Tielemans can be a good signing for Aston Villa

While Tielemans may not be the sort of midfielder who is going to cover the whole pitch and win loads of tackles every game, he still has a lot to offer to this Villa side.

The Belgium international is obviously a very technical footballer who is really good at passing the ball.

“That slide pass that sometimes gets cut out doesn’t with Tielemans because he is so crisp with his passing,” former Villa striker Emile Heskey told Goal in 2021. “He would fit into any team.”

It is now up to Emery to utilise that. If he does not, you would have to question the Spaniard’s decision to bring him in.

After the international break, Villa take on Crystal Palace at home, where Tielemans will be hoping to make his first league start in claret and blue.
