‘I’m not sure’: Glenn Hoddle shares doubts about whether 49-year-old would get Tottenham job

Glenn Hoddle is unconvinced by reports suggesting Maurico Pochettino could leave PSG and return to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, as he told talkSPORT (28 May, 9:00am).

Well, this is awkward.

18 months after Daniel Levy gave the most popular and successful Tottenham manager in the modern era his marching orders, the Spurs chairman is knocking on the Parc des Princes door, a bouquet of roses in hand.

‘Forgive me Poch’.

According to the Guardian, Pochettino may indeed be willing to forgive, forget and put those differences behind him.

The 46-year-old has grown tired of the politics and the preening at Paris Saint-Germain in double-quick time and it is believed that, if the Ligue 1 runners-up are willing to let him go after just five months, the Argentine would be very tempted by the idea of returning to the club he transformed from nearly men into, well, nearly men of a rather higher calibre.

But Tottenham legend Hoddle is not exactly holding his breath.

“It’s difficult one that one. Will Daniel Levy say: ‘I made a big mistake’? That’s a big call,” Hoddle mused.

“Poch hasn’t really done well over there (at PSG). You’re expected to win the league, that’s a given. I’m not sure about that one will materialise.”

Some have suggested that Pochettino’s prospective return represents a desperate last throw of the dice for Levy, with the chairman desperate to keep talisman and captain Harry Kane in North London.

It is no secret that Kane enjoyed a close relationship with the former Southampton and Espanyol boss.

And you get the feeling that, while Tottenham’s number ten is open to the idea of joining a direct Premier League rival, he would love nothing more than to swig champagne in a Spurs shirt.

“I think it would be helpful in many ways but is that the right thing? To bring a manager back just to save a star player? I’m not sure,” Hoddle added, before pointing out that any club wanting to buy Kane will have an unenviable task on their hands.

“With three years left on your contract, it’s going to be a difficult deal to do as much as Harry wants to leave.”
