Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he is reserving judgement about Celtic’s Vasilis Barkas, admitting that he prefers his opposite number at Rangers.
Celtic signed the Greek goalkeeper in a £5 million deal from AEK Athens during the summer.
Barkas has enjoyed a lukewarm start to life in Glasgow but he’s set for the real acid test on Saturday as Celtic prepare to host Rangers in an Old Firm.
The pressure of these fixtures can make or break players but the 26-year-old – who has had a couple of dodgy performances already, particularly in Champions League qualifying – could find himself with a new lease of confidence if he helps Neil Lennon’s side to victory over the Gers.
But when picking a combined Old Firm XI in The Scottish Sun, Boyd admitted that there’s a question mark over Barkas for him, opting for Rangers’ Allan McGregor instead.
He said: “I don’t really need to say much about Greegsy. He has proved time and time again that when it comes to big games, he always rises to the occasion. He makes big saves in big moments. I’m not too sure about Vasilis Barkas either, so it’s an easy choice.”
