Tottenham and Belgium ace Jan Vertonghen spoke to reporters about Toby Alderweireld’s uncertain future, and insisted that he is not stressed by the prospect of his teammate leaving Spurs in the summer, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Alderweireld, 29, has been linked with an exit from Tottenham this summer, with the Manchester Evening News claiming that Manchester United are leading the race for his signature.

The Belgium international has suffered with injuries this season, and that combined with Davinson Sanchez’s rise to prominence has made it easier for Spurs fans to envisage life without the centre-back.

Vertonghen, though, insisted that he is not stressed by the situation, when speaking to reporters, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“We’ve been playing together for a long time and we know how to play together. When I left for Tottenham, Toby left for Atletico and Southampton, and then we found each other again, so there is no stress.”

Despite Spurs having plenty of options in the central defensive department, they will surely want to keep hold of Alderweireld this summer, as selling him to one of their rivals could be seen as a huge backwards step for them.

Much will depend on whether Mauricio Pochettino has identified a potential replacement for the Belgian, however, and if they are offered £50 million plus for his services, Daniel Levy might very well be tempted to cash in on the centre-back.
