Paul Merson told Sky Sports News (15/03/21 at 1:25 pm) that he’s ‘not sure’ he would see Erik Lamela’s Rabona goal for Tottenham on a ‘Sunday morning’.

The former Premier League winner labelled Lamela’s goal in the North London derby as ‘unbelievable’.

Tottenham fans weren’t the only ones in shock when Lamela opened the scoring over the weekend because it was an audacious effort on the big stage and in a big game.

During his days as a dazzling attacker, Merson scored a number of wonder goals and he shared his thoughts on the £26 million stars (BBC Sport) effort.

“It’s well up there, I would have to say it is well up there,” said Merson. “I always go a good goal by ‘would I see that on a Sunday morning?’ And I’m not sure.

“I see 40-yarders. I see people scoring from the halfway line and I see people beating five players. But I don’t see too many of them.

“I thought it was just an unbelievable finish. And the way he has hit it. It hasn’t bobbled it. He’s drilled it into the corner. It was a phenomenal finish.

“Even I was like ‘wow’ and it was against Arsenal for Tottenham where it has to be special for me to say ‘wow’ if a Tottenham player is scoring. And it was a wow factor.”

Whilst it’s a goal that will be remembered by Lamela for a long time, in end, there was a big dampener on that goal because of Tottenham’s defeat.

Arsenal fans will be sure to remind their rivals that they lost that game every time they try to bring that goal up.

But either way, it should still be recognised as one of the great North London derby goals and one of the great Premier League goals.
