Aside from bringing in Ibrahima Konate to Liverpool, those on Merseyside have yet to really get their engine going in the transfer market.
One name that has popped up as a possible addition this summer is Aston Villa’s very own driving engine, John McGinn, as reported by The Athletic
Even though McGinn might divide opinion as to whether Liverpool should bring him in, he is Andy Robertson’s ‘favourite player’, as he told FourFourTwo in May.
Understandably, a lot of that probably comes from watching the bullfighter-like midfielder score for fun in Scotland colours and then showcase his underappreciated talents for a young, vibrant and progressive Villa side.
Either way, whilst Robertson is one of the best left-back’s in the world, it’s another left-footed star that’s catching his son’s eye.
“Rocco loves football and now knows a lot of the players,” said Robertson. “I’d love to say I’m his favourite Scotland player, but I’m not!
“That, of course, is Super John McGinn. I’m sure most people in Scotland would pick him, so I can’t fault that.”

If Liverpool want to land McGinn’s talents then they may have to pay £50 million for his services.
And given that he won’t be a guaranteed starter, it would be a surprise if those in the Anfield boardroom pushed through for such a deal, especially when they paid less for Thiago.
On paper, a player like McGinn suits Liverpool down to the ground, his aggressive nature in the middle of the park, ability to be like a pac-man and eat everything in his way is what Jurgen Klopp would love.
His goal and assists record might not scream out, but a big reason behind that is the Scotsman playing a much deeper role in Dean Smith’s system as Jack Grealish is the one wowing the Premier League in the final third.
