Ian Wright has hailed Arsenal’s Gabriel as a ‘shining light’, as his former side’s poor run of results continued yesterday.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves, Wright was clearly frustrated with the performance he had witnessed from his own club.
But he did reserve some praise for Gabriel, who was Arsenal’s goalscorer on the evening.
“You have just got a player who is determined to get in. You have four around him but he’s determined to get it. Fair play to him,” Wright said of the £23 million summer signing (BBC Sport).
“To be honest he’s done pretty well, he’s hit a couple of stray passes, but if we’re looking at someone at Arsenal who is a shining light, he’s one of them.
“I’m not going to dig him out too much, he’s doing the best he can.”
If Gabriel’s Arsenal teammates had shown the same level of determination as him, then Mikel Arteta’s side may have got something from the game yesterday.
However, Arsenal were well off the pace in the end, as they slipped to another disappointing defeat.
The Gunners once again showed a worrying lack of attacking threat, as they failed to have a shot on target in the second-half when chasing the game.
Arsenal are now in 14th place in the Premier League table following the defeat, with the pressure building on Arteta.
