Mario Lemina has admitted to BBC Sport that he was ‘scared’ of Liverpool on Sunday.
Like many teams have rocked up to Anfield recently, Scott Parker’s men recorded a deserved 1-0 win against Liverpool yesterday.
Lemina was the man of the moment because it was his goal, and it perhaps should have been more, that separated the champions and the newly-promoted side.
Given Liverpool’s current situation, Lemina was pretty honest in how he felt coming up against a wounded animal but praised his team for the football they played on Merseyside.
“Honestly, I am not going to lie, I was scared because they need to win some games,” said Lemina.
“But I was so confident in my team. We have shown in all the games we have played that we play good football and deserve to be higher in the league.
“In the last game I missed a big, big chance and I wanted to say I can score. It’s a good goal because we win the game.”

If Liverpool didn’t know it already, they are in more than a spot of bother.
From being blown out of the Premier League title race, to worrying about a top-four finish, the champions are now sitting outside of the European places altogether.
As it stands, Liverpool are heading towards no European football at all next season, which was just unthinkable 12, six even three months ago.
Liverpool just need wins and wins at home because they cannot even seem to buy a goal on home soil, at the moment, nevermind three points.
