Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT that he doesn’t think Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, will be as good as Manchester United star, Edinson Cavani, when he reaches his age.

Despite being 34-years-old, Cavani has endured a pretty successful debut campaign in Manchester United colours, even though he arrived with uncertainty and question marks, with Cascarino comparing him to Tottenham’s number nine.

Ten Premier League goals in 26 league games, including 17 in all competitions is some going from Cavani, but he couldn’t match Tottenham’s thriving machine, who ended the campaign as top scorer and assist-maker.

Ex-Republic of Ireland forward, Cascarino, compared both Cavani and Kane on their current form, and questioned whether the Tottenham man would be able to match the Old Trafford man’s performance when he’s coming towards the end of his career.

“I was at a lunch recently and was with a number of ex-players,” said Cascarino. “And I asked the question, ‘Kane and Cavani, would you do a comparison?’.

“And I was actually surprised by some of the answers. A lot of ex-players were like ‘of course, Kane is the obvious number one’. But it became quite clear by the end of the conversation, by a number of pros who I played with, that there isn’t much of a difference.

“If you said to me Kane or Cavani? If Cavani was 27, every day of the week I would consider Cavani, alongside Kane and equal.

“Will Kane be as good as Cavani at 34? I am not so sure. That’s a big ask. If he is then he would have broken every record if he’s as good as Cavani at 34.”

One of Kane’s biggest assets is what supporters don’t see and that the Englishman’s footballing brain.

Whatever position you put Kane in, whatever scenario, he has the technique, calmness and intelligence to make the right calls.

Given the performances Kane has produced this season, it has raised the question as to whether he will head for the exit door this summer, as reported by Sky Sports.

And he may well end up on the same doorstep as Cavani if a move to Old Trafford materialises, but until then, Spurs fans will be hoping they can still enjoy his talents.
