Fabio Paratici stated during a Sky transfer documentary ‘I am not a villain’ when trying to sell Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga during the summer transfer window.
Deadline Day: Football’s Transfer Window aired on Sky Sports this month, with an insight into how certain deals work, conversations with agents and players trying to make a move and how this billion-pound industry is just booming.
Well, one segment of the documentary involved Spurs academy product Tanganga, who was wanted by Milan giants – AC Milan and Inter – during the summer transfer window – and now the north London club are looking to sell him again.
Tanganga, whilst in discussion with his agent Roberto De Fanti, as well as his dad, shared how he was ‘open’ to moving because of where he stood in the Spurs pecking order under Antonio Conte.
Throughout the summer, they tried to do a deal, with Spurs insisting that their player had to be purchased, in the end, a move didn’t happen, with Cristian Romero’s injury also not helping matters.
Nonetheless, this is how just some of it unfolded, as aired by Sky.
“With Japhet, we have the two biggest clubs of Milan who want him,” said Roberto De Fanti. “They both wanted a loan. But Fabio, the Sporting Director of Tottenham told me that they want to sell the player basically, so I will call Fabio, anyway.”
De Fanti then picks up the phone and proceeds to speak to Paratici about Tanganga’s situation, where he tells him that he was on the phone with Inter, how that’s a ‘better option’ than AC Milan because he’ll have more minutes, but they ‘only want a loan with an option to buy’.
Paratici’s response: “No, it’s impossible like that. If they think like that, it cannot work. Look, I think that. If we want to waste time, then we can go on wasting time. In the sense that they are Italian, I am Italian and I know how they negotiate.
“For the deal to work, they must buy him if he plays 50% of the games, for both teams. The transfer cost is the same for both because I am not a villain.”
TANGANGA STILL NEEDS A MOVE…
Fast forward to the present and Tanganga should have pushed for a move even more because the 23-year-old has hardly played this season.
Only 264 minutes for the Englishman and 67 of those came in the Premier League. That’s even worse when you bear in mind how abject the team has been at the back.
Less than 48 hours remain before the January transfer window slams shut and Tanganga has to look for a move.
