Ricky Villa has said that he is desperate for Mauricio Pochettino to return as the Tottenham Hotspur manager in the summer.

A report emerged on Saturday stating that Spurs have unanimously decided not to bring back the Argentine to N17, despite their need for a new coach.

However, Ricky Villa disagrees with the decision, as he wants Mauricio Pochettino , branded as ‘elite’ by Pep Guardiola via Guardian to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Ricky Villa wants Mauricio Pochettino back as Tottenham manager

It emerged as a surprise to see the former Paris Saint-Germain boss not even considered by his former club as an option, taking into account the incredible job he did last time around.

Andros Towsend, who famously used to play for Spurs went as far as to refer to the ex-Southampton coach as the ‘best manager in the world’ via talkSPORT.

“Pochettino, come back! We need Pochettino back into the team”, he told talkSPORT.

“Yes, yes, yes [Villa responded to him being Chelsea-bound]. Spurs did not call him, he has another offer and he has to make a decision. But I have a little chance to ensure he comes into Spurs again.”

Ricky Villa concluded about his desire for Mauricio Pochettino to become the next Tottenham manager by saying, “But it’s not my decision, it’s the decision of the chairman. I meet Pochettino next week and we’ll see what happens; going to Chelsea or waiting for the club.”

HITC View: Spurs should at least consider Pochettino

Even if Daniel Levy firmly believes the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are superior candidates, Ricky Villa is right in suggesting that it is a shame that Mauricio Pochettino was not even considered for the Tottenham manager job.

While Antonio Conte constantly made snide remarks about Spurs’ recruitment, it is key to hark back to a time when the former Espanyol boss underwent a window where not a single player was signed.

And yet, Pochettino managed to massively overachieve during his time at the club whilst his side played an eye-catching brand of football.

With Mauricio Pochettino having been there and done that, the least that should be done is to consider him as a candidate for the role.
