Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to fume over a brutal challenge from Theo Walcott in Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton.
The England international lunged in on James Milner in the 81st minute at St Mary’s, just as the Liverpool No.7 had delivered a cross.
Andre Marriner didn’t even award a freekick for the challenge, instead allowing the game to continue in what was a bizarre decision.
We can only imagine that Marriner’s eyes followed the ball into the box, meaning that he missed what happened to the crosser.
However, if that is the case, then it’s awful officiating.
In this day and age, you could even argue that Walcott might’ve seen red for his reckless lunge.

In that respect, the fact that not even a freekick was awarded is, quite simply, crazy.
Fortunately, Milner – on his 35th birthday – was alright to play on.
Nevertheless, Liverpool fans aren’t happy.
Their anger could perhaps be enhanced by a number of strange decisions from Marriner during the game.

A strike from Georginio Wijnaldum was blocked by Jack Stephens’ hand, but VAR, nor Marriner, felt a penalty should’ve been awarded.
Liverpool also had another decent shout for a penalty when Kyle Walker-Peters tripped Sadio Mane in the box. However, once again, play continued.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter thought of Walcott’s challenge…
