Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting after Arsene Wenger admitted that he perhaps should have left Arsenal long before his eventual departure in 2018.

Wenger stuck around at Arsenal for over 20 years, and while many fans were grateful for his loyalty and his great work, there was a vocal sub-section of fans desperate to see him sacked towards the end of his tenure.

However, the man himself feels as though he possibly should have left back in 2007.

“2007 was a decisive point. It was the first time I could feel there were tensions inside the board. I was torn between being loyal to the club and being loyal to David [Dein]. I still today wonder if I did the right thing because life was never exactly the same after. I thought, ‘I have now to go to the end of this project,” Wenger said.

“I could have gone to the French national team. The English national team twice or three times even. I could have gone twice to Real Madrid. I could have gone to Juventus, Paris St Germain, even Man United.”

It’s amazing to hear that a man as loyal as Wenger is openly admitting that he may have been better off leaving Arsenal 10 years before his eventual departure.

Arsenal fans online are rather sad to hear this as well. It almost feels as though the club didn’t repay the loyalty Wenger showed to them, and it’s fair to say that some fans didn’t truly appreciate everything the Frenchman did for the club.

Here’s what Arsenal fans have been saying about Wenger’s admission…
