Simon Jordan has stated that when he was the owner of Crystal Palace he was ‘intimidated’ by Leeds United fans and Elland Road, as he told talkSPORT.
For many, many years, Leeds spent quite a while struggling and trying to find themselves again in the lower leagues of English football.
Former owner-turned-pundit Simon Jordan would have visited Elland Road many a time when he was Crystal Palace owner and sat in the director’s box.
For opposing teams, fans and those in suits, going to Elland Road can be difficult for most because the Yorkshire faithful make life difficult for everyone and anyone.
Well, Jordan shared his experiences of the Leeds fans from the vantage point of him being an owner of a football club.
“I don’t love it (going to Elland Road),” said Jordan. “I am intimidated by it if I am intimidated by anything.
“It’s one of those clubs, when you go to Elland Road and you play against Leeds United, perhaps it was Ken Bates getting on my nerves at the time, but I found the environment to be very up and in your face.
“Having taken Palace to most of the grounds around the country, the one that always stood out was Leeds – when you saw that bleedin’ great stand on the other side of the director’s box and the Leeds fans at it and on it. It just puts the hairs on the back of your neck a little bit.”
PREMIER LEAGUE RETURN
The Leeds United faithful wouldn’t have been too pleased by what they have seen from Jesse Marsch’s side this season, with a number of questionable results and performances.
At one point, there were even cries for Marsch to head for the exit door, but their win at Anfield, prior to the break for the World Cup, did them the world of good.
The Whites are hovering two points above the drop zone, and whilst last season they survived the scare of all scares, they simply can’t go down that road this time around, or else it could produce very different and unwanted results.
