Glasgow Rangers fans were left hugely excited after Jim White tweeted that he had been told that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is now close to taking over at Ibrox.

Van Bronckhorst to Rangers?

Rangers have been looking for a new manager since Steven Gerrard’s departure last week, and Van Bronckhorst quickly flew in for talks.

Rangers have since spoken to other candidates, but it seems that the Dutch manager is now becoming their first choice to take over at Ibrox.

Van Bronckhorst has held a further interview with the Rangers board, and Sky say that his values align to those of the club’s.

Rangers fans have got firmly behind the idea of Van Bronckhorst taking charge.

And White’s confirmation that he had heard everything was progressing swimmingly went down very well late last night.

The new era

It now remains to be seen whether Rangers announce Van Bronckhorst’s arrival officially today.

If they do there is even a chance that he could be in the dugout for their next game, which comes against Hibernian on Sunday.

Van Bronckhorst does have big boots to fill at Ibrox, but he arrives at Rangers with more managerial experience than Gerrard ever had before he took the job.

Indeed, the 46-year-old boss has won a league title with Feyenoord previously.

The hope is that Van Bronckhorst can add to that trophy cabinet in his first season at Ibrox.

Rangers are already four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, and the Light Blues will hope for a smooth transition, as they look to continue the fine work that Gerrard did at the club.
