Cristian Romero continues to win admirers at Tottenham Hotspur, even while away on international duty.

Robust tackling

Romero was in action in Argentina’s 0-0 draw with Brazil yesterday evening, and the Tottenham defender put in a solid display before being subbed off with injury in the second-half.

Games between the South American rivals are almost always feisty affairs and yesterday’s contest was no different.

Thankfully for Romero, he absolutely loves a physical battle.

The Tottenham defender already has proven he is more than aggressive enough to cope in the Premier League.

And his tendency to give opposition forwards a hard time was on display again last night.

As Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior tried to shield the ball out of play, Romero simply ran over and charged at the player, earning his side a goal kick.

No foul was given, perhaps rather generously, and many Tottenham supporters loved seeing their central defender show such battling spirit.

Was it worthy of praise?

While Romero’s aggression is a good asset, he does need to be careful to temper it correctly.

Romero’s disciplinary record at Spurs is already questionable, and he will need to be careful his passion doesn’t cause him to make stupid errors.

As much as last night’s challenge has won him admirers, in different circumstances he could have given away a needless free-kick.

That being said, Tottenham do seem to have made an excellent purchase by bringing Romero in during the summer.

And everyone at Spurs will be desperately hoping he is fit enough to feature against Leeds United at the weekend.
