Ian Wright has said on the Wrighty’s House podcast that he believes Liverpool will be making a great signing by bringing in Ibrahima Konate.
The Guardian reported yesterday that Liverpool are closing in on the central defender from RB Leipzig.
Konate should join Liverpool after the European under-21 Championships, after becoming their first choice central defender.
And Wright has suggested that the youngster could be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“I’m hearing that he’s the guy! That’s a great signing,” he enthused.
Konate’s arrival actually seems to mean that Ozan Kabak won’t be joining Liverpool.
It will now be interesting to see whether Klopp intends to sign Konate as a starter, or as a back-up option.
The Reds are expected to have Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk back from injury for the start of next season.
If the trio all do return and Konate arrives then competition for places at the back will be fierce, especially as Nathaniel Phillips has also proven his capabilities recently.

Konate has impressed in the Bundesliga with Leipzig, and he looks an ideal fit for Liverpool.
The 22-year-old has the pace to play in Liverpool’s back-line, he is used to playing in an aggressive system, and he is technically proficient.
If he does catch the eye then he could prove to be a very shrewd investment, as at his age, he could be a real long-term option in Liverpool’s defence.
