It was reported in late May that Manchester City were set to make Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish the most expensive English player of all time.
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester City are said to be readying a £100 million offer for the 25-year-old midfielder.
Grealish had a brilliant season at Aston Villa last time around and scored seven goals and set up another 12, despite missing a chunk of the Premier League season through injury.
Such a huge offer would be difficult for the Villans to turn down.
But former Aston Villa attacker Gabby Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT that he’s hearing rumblings that Grealish will be staying at the Bodymoor Heath club, suggesting even the Sky Blues could struggle to meet the player’s valuation in this climate.
He said: “Aston Villa will be in a better position. I think Jack will stay, I think I’m hearing. They’ll invest as well. I think Man City and Manchester United would be the only ones that I think would go for him in the Premier League, but with [the pandemic] and stuff, are these teams going to want to pay £130 million? I’m not too sure.”
Set in stone?
No it isn’t set in stone that Manchester City won’t sign Grealish.
After all, we haven’t even had the European Championships yet and if Grealish impressed for England during the competition, the demand will only increase.
This is a phenomenally-talented player and one who would improve Pep Guardiola’s side.
Even if it takes £100 million, City may pull the trigger and especially if he has a good summer.
