Robbie Fowler has stated that he is ‘gutted’ for Sadio Mane that he didn’t score the winning penalty during Liverpool’s FA Cup win final against Chelsea.

When Mane, who has been involved in a number of highly-pressured shootouts for his country this season, stepped up to take a spot-kick, he had the chance to win the game.

But his fellow countryman, Edouard Mendy, saved the penalty and read the Liverpool forward like a book whilst diving to his left.

Whilst Mane missed that chance, Kostas Tsimikas took hero status when he ended up taking the glory.

After the game, Anfield legend Fowler spoke about being ‘really emotional’ and why he was ‘gutted’ for Mane, as he told ITV Sport.

“I am never nervous with Liverpool, I am always optimistic that they will win,” said Fowler.

“I am gutted for Sadio Mane that he never got the winning penalty because he deserves it. He’s an incredible player – I am really emotional.”

COULD MANE WIN BALLON D’OR IN LIVERPOOL COLOURS?

With the Africa Cup of Nations, League Cup and now FA Cup medal around his neck, Mane is on course to elevate his status even further.

Add a Champions League medal, and even be the hero in Paris against Real Madrid, then those cries for him to win the Ballon d’Or will only increase.

Ever since the Senegal star returned from the AFCON’s, he has been outstanding for his club.

He has outscored his attacking Liverpool teammates since February and is in a run of form that will keep many Real Madrid players awake at night heading into the final.
