Troy Deeney told talkSPORT Breakfast that Liverpool ‘just edge it’ over Tottenham Hotspur.

The outspoken striker thinks Liverpool have the ability to win ‘more games in a row’ and they have got ‘a few more goals throughout the team’ than Tottenham.

First will meet second in the Premier League at Anfield tonight, with all eyes on the high-quality forward players on show.

Deeney was asked to pick between both sides and he shared why those from Merseyside hold the edge over their North London counterparts.

“I’m going to stick with Liverpool,” said Deeney. “I just think the more players they will get back then the more they will grow. And the intensity.

“If I had to say, I think Liverpool will win more games in a row. Spurs might win two, draw two and win another three. I think Liverpool have got [the ability] to win five games on the trot. That’s where I think they just edge it.

“They have probably got a few more goals throughout the team than Spurs. But Spurs have been fantastic and I think Mourinho won Manager of the Month, so I think you have to tip your hat to them.”

Liverpool are the more proven side, so it’s understandable picking the champions of England, at this moment in time.

But if Mourinho can work his magic at Spurs then he will once again win a lot of admirers outside of North London even though a number were questioning him before he took the post.

But tonight’s task against Liverpool is the toughest he has faced since he joined the club and all three points would send out a serious message of intent to the rest of the league.
