Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about Jack Grealish’s performances for England in the recent friendlies.
Ferdinand initially claimed that the friendlies were rather pointless as Gareth Southgate hadn’t learnt anything about his squad, but he changed his mind due to the effect Grealish had on the squad.
What’s been said?
Ferdinand changed his mind about the friendlies, claiming that they were worthwhile due to the fact Grealish showed everyone that he’s one of England’s main men.
“Actually, I’m going to go back on my word there. The thing that he learnt in the last two games is that if he needs a moment of brilliance, it’s Grealish, it’s Grealish. That’s what it’s about now, that’s where we’ve gotten to,” Ferdinand said.
“He’s now sustaining that and fulfilling that role consistently now. Anyone can come in and bang, Theo Walcott came in against Croatia and got that hat-trick, but it’s about doing it consistently, and he’s doing it now in back-to-back games. He’s continuing it, it’s alright doing it in one in three games, but we’ve been crying out for a creative player who when the chips are down you can throw him the ball and somethings going to happen, and he’s that guy.”

Spot on
Gareth Southgate didn’t really learn too much about his squad after two underwhelming friendly performances, but he did get to see Grealish at his best.
Let’s be frank, Southgate hasn’t shown much faith in Grealish in the past, but after his recent showings it will surely be impossible to ignore what he brings to the team.
The Aston Villa ace will surely be pivotal in England’s campaign at the Euros this summer.
