Many Arsenal fans don’t seem too pleased over Mikel Arteta’s decision to try and tie David Luiz down to a new contract.
The Independent suggests that Arsenal are set to offer Luiz a contract extension, which will keep him at the Emirates Stadium for a further year.
The Brazilian has played an important part in Arteta’s plans this season.
And while a few Arsenal fans were behind the decision, the vast majority felt that keeping Luiz around for next year would be a bad move.
Luiz is now 33, and has shown signs that he has past his best – despite Arteta clearly trusting him.
Arsenal do also have to consider that William Saliba will return to their squad next season.
The Gunners have loaned out Saliba this term, and he has made an impressive start to life at Nice.
If Arsenal are planning on playing Luiz ahead of him next year, then it is difficult to see just how the youngster is going to break back into Arteta’s plans.
And Arsenal supporters may well be right to be concerned about Saliba’s prospects of playing after the latest news.
