Leeds United suffered a poor defeat in the Championship today.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is greeted by Aston Villa manager Dean Smith during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Leeds United at Villa Park on December 23,...

Simon Grayson has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa will be drilling into Leeds United players that their automatic promotion bid isn’t dead.

Leeds suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat by 10-man Wigan at Elland Road to drop to third in the Championship table, with three league games to go.

Sheffield United, who won earlier in the day, moved second on goal difference and will stay there ahead of Easter Monday’s round of fixtures.

The Blades visit Hull City, while Bielsa’s side have a trip to Brentford.

Today was a terrible and deflating result for Leeds, but former Whites boss Grayson told talkSPORT 2 he believes that Bielsa will be trying to restore hope as soon as possible.

“I’m exhausted. Leeds asked questions but full credit to Wigan. They put their bodies on the line. Leeds kept on probing but it was a great performance by ten men.

“I think Marcelo Bielsa will know it’s not done. He will still be saying to his players that they are in a good position.”

You would hope that Grayson is right. If Bielsa isn’t upbeat then that pessimism might transmit to the playing staff and that’s the last thing that they need right now.

Promotion was in Leeds’ own hands prior to today and although some disappointment is inevitable, many will still believe that it can be done.
