Paul Heckingbottom got off to a winning start in his first match as Sheffield United’s new manager as the Blades secured a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Goals from Rhian Brewster and club legend Billy Sharp wrapped up the three points for the South Yorkshire side as the Barnsley-born coach pulled off the victory on his return to the hot seat for Sheffield United.

Heckingbottom took interim charge of the Blades last season following the departure of former boss Chris Wilder. And it was fitting that Brewster, who the now-Middlesbrough boss signed for a club-record fee, was the one to kick off the scoring.

The former Liverpool striker has struggled for form with United in the Championship this season. With Brewster scoring just once in the league. However, the England youth international was back on the scoresheet this afternoon.

The result against Bristol City took the Blades up to 13th in the Championship standings. And with the festive period just around the corner, this win could be crucial in the stretch of games that lie ahead.

Indeed, Heckingbottom’s return could spur the club into a new-manager bounce which so often occurs with teams. And for United, this could be a life-saver for their hopes of returning to the Premier League.
