Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Newcastle would be willing to pay the £22 million asking price for Joe Willock.
The Telegraph have claimed that cash-strapped Newcastle, who have a small budget, want the Hale-End academy product so badly that they are willing to put down the £22 million needed to sign him.
Arsenal fans have reacted to how much Willock could potentially leave for and some of them are not happy.
The 21-year-old showcased his goalscoring touch last season – netting in eight consecutive games whilst on loan at Newcastle.
You would think that Willock is somebody Mikel Arteta would treasure and make him part of his long-term plans given that he has something that Arsenal desperately need in the middle of the park – goals.
But that’s not the case, so could a return to St James’ Park be on the cards?
Newcastle probably need a Willock more than Arsenal do themselves, but Mike Ashley’s lack of spending in the market might just prove to be a stumbling block.
Either way, with the Gunners looking at James Maddison and their marmite-like figure Granit Xhaka is set to sign a new contract, the club need money from somewhere.
And if they can generate that from Willock then, from a financial perspective, it would do them the world of good.
Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this transfer story drags on until Deadline Day itself.
