Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been chatting about his ambition to play as a goalkeeper for West Ham United.

Antonio has proven to be one of the most versatile players in world football over the past decade or so. He’s played in almost every position, from centre-forward to left-back, but one role he’s never taken up is as a goalkeeper.

Antonio says that he’s already spoken to goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero about playing between the sticks if West Ham are ever caught in a bind, and he says that he’s definitely the Hammers’ third-choice.

What’s Antonio said?

The striker spoke about his ambition to play in goal.

“I’ve always dreamed to play a game in goal. Not a whole game, but maybe at the end of the season, two of our goalkeepers get sent off, I’m definitely third-choice. I’ve thrown it out there, I’ve spoken to Xavi, if the opportunity arises, it’s going to me, nobody else is allowed to take that,” Antonio said.

Hopefully not

As hilarious as it would be to see Antonio playing in goal, we’re sure West Ham fans never want to see it.

Antonio playing in net would mean that something has gone seriously wrong. The Hammers’ first and second choice goalkeepers would have to have been injured or sent off, and while the Jamaican is a great footballer, we can’t imagine he’d be the second-coming of Iker Casillas between the sticks.

Antonio may want to play in goal one day, but the likelihood of him getting the chance to don a pair of goalkeeping gloves are slim.
