Tottenham Hotspur fans are absolutely delighted that their official account has not forgotten about Jan Vertonghen following his departure from the club.
Vertonghen was selected to start alongside Tottenham defender Alderweireld for Belgium last night, and Spurs were keen to send their usual encouraging message to their players on international duty.
But, such is the affection felt towards Vertonghen at Spurs, the official Twitter account also sent a message to him.
And Tottenham fans absolutely loved that Vertonghen was still being acknowledged by the club, despite his departure.
The reaction shows just how fondly Vertonghen is remembered at Spurs.
The 33-year-old, who now plays for Benfica, will go down as one of the club’s best defenders of the modern era – even though he did show signs of age towards the end of his time with Jose Mourinho’s side.
Vertonghen and Alderweireld linked up well again last night, as they helped Belgium to a 4-2 win over Denmark.
Nacer Chadli also played in Belgium’s game, but he was not given quite the same attention by Tottenham’s Twitter account.
