Some Newcastle United fans are absolutely buzzing over what Eddie Howe has claimed.

Earlier this week, Howe was named as Steve Bruce’s long-term replacement at St James’s Park.

The 43-year-old had been out of work since leaving Bournemouth following their relegation to the Championship a little more than a year ago.

It had previously been suggested that Newcastle would only be hiring a stop-gap manager with Premier League experience to ensure that the Magpies remain in the top flight.

But Howe is very much on board with this project for the long term.

During his unveiling on Wednesday, he told a news conference that he was set to move his family to Tyneside, underlining his commitment.

And suffice to say that a lot of Newcastle fans are loving those comments, made via Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.

Here’s what they’ve been saying:

Stop the rot

The fanbase is clearly love Howe.

And that’s great because he needs all the support that he can get.

Newcastle are the only team in the Premier League yet to win from any of their 11 games this season.

United are 19th in the table and six points adrift of safety as of now.

His first game is at home to Brentford in what could very well be three points but, even if it is, it’ll be the first step on a long road to recovery.

The slide has gone on too long at Newcastle and it’s fascinating to see whether Howe is the man to stop the rot.
