Speaking on BBC’s coverage of England vs Germany (29/6/21 5PM), Alan Shearer has been speaking about Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

It’s no secret that Kane hasn’t been at his best at the Euros so far, but he finally got a goal against Germany, and now he has the perfect opportunity to kick on.

Shearer says that he’s certain Kane will step up after opening his European Championships account.

What’s been said?

Shearer claims that Kane’s goal against Germany will ignite him and that he will now come alive in this tournament.

“That will ignite him, I’m pretty sure of that now. He had been flat, there’s no doubt about it in that first-half, there was a lack of movement the ball wasn’t coming in, maybe he stopped running, but then when balls came into the box he started to come alive. He comes alive and he gets that goal, and I’m certain you’re going to see a different Harry Kane now.”

Slow starter

For all of Harry Kane’s brilliance, he has been known to be a slow starter in the past, but once he gets going, he’s unstoppable.

At one point Kane had something of a hoodoo around scoring Premier League goals in August, so it’s true that it can take him a while to warm up, but once that fire is lit inside him, he’s a goal machine.

Shearer may be right about Kane being a different player going forward. The pressure should be lifted from him now and he should be able to play his best football in England’s remaining games.
