Alasdair Gold has written that he cannot see Gareth Bale enjoying ‘one last hurrah’ at Tottenham Hotspur next season, despite the speculation.
Bale turned back the clock on Thursday night with a masterclass on international duty.
The 32-year-old scored both of Wales’ goals in a 2-1 World Cup playoff victory over Austria.
Both of the former Tottenham attacker’s goals were genuinely world class.
Tuttomercatoweb reported on February 11 that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would be signing the Real Madrid player for a third time on a pre-contract agreeement, when his deal expires this summer.
However, Gold, who exclusively covers the Lilywhites for Football London, cannot see it happening.
He points to the work ethic that Antonio Conte demands from his players and does not believe that the no-nonsense Italian manager would tolerate a Bale.
He said: “As much as I’d like to see Gareth Bale have a last hurrah in front of full crowds at Spurs I just can’t see how he fits Conte’s team with the workrate and pressing required for an older player with his injury nightmares of recent seasons. I’m as intrigued as anyone to see what the Welshman does next.”
Bale left the North Londoners originally in 2013 for a world-record fee of £80 million.
The Southampton product returned under Jose Mourinho in 2020 and, ultimately, that’s why Gold is right.
Conte will demand the exact same as Mourinho and if Bale didn’t fare well under the latter, which he really didn’t, then logically it’s difficult to see why things would be that much different under the Italian.
