Speaking on the Molineux View Podcast, Tim Spiers has commented on reports linking Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo with a move to Arsenal.
Reports emerged last week stating that Jorge Mendes had offered Nuno around to a number of sides, with Arsenal mentioned as one team he’d held talks with.
Fortunately for Wolves, Spiers believes that these reports are baseless, and that Mendes hasn’t in fact been touting Nuno’s services.
“I don’t want to discredit anyone else’s work, but come on,” Spiers said.
“If Nuno is ever going to leave Wolves the manner in which he does it is not going to be Jorge Mendes asking other Premier League clubs, ‘do you want Nuno as your manager’
“The story suggested he wants to move to an English club who is playing in Europe, tell me which one of those is about to lose their manager?
“It’s not the way Nuno does things, he’s not going to leave Wolves in the lurch for the sake of wanting to move to an English club in Europe, it’s utter, utter rubbish I’m afraid.”
This is reassuring from a Wolves perspective, but disappointing from an Arsenal one.
We’ve argued before that Arsenal should have appointed Nuno instead of Mikel Arteta, but now it looks as though the former Porto boss won’t be moving anytime soon.
Nuno is a great manager, and it’s a testament to his character that he won’t leave Wolves in the lurch just because a bigger job has become available.
Wolves are one of the great projects in English football at the moment, and their current manager seems to be the perfect man to take them forward.
It looks as though there’s no danger of Wolves’ manager ditching them anytime soon.
