Dele Alli’s Tottenham Hotspur career took a whack last night.

For someone who was such a massive player for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, his influence is waning in a major way.

On Wednesday, Alli wasn’t even included in the squad as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side beat Burnley to reach the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

This is yet another sign of regression from the 25-year-old midfielder, whose performance in the Europa Conference League defeat by Vitesse wasn’t warmly received last Thursday.

Before the visit to Turf Moor last night, Alli posted a training montage of himself in the gym on Instagram.

He is clearly doing hard work behind the scenes and here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to the footage on Twitter:

Tragic

The England international’s decline in recent years is genuinely quite tragic.

This was an immense talent early on under Pochettino and although his form has undeniably gone downhill since the Argentine left, there was already hints of a decline when the current Paris Saint-Germain coach was still in charge.

Alli’s form is deeper than the manager, despite a lot of supporters blaming Jose Mourinho for his deteroriation.

And that’s actually a positive because the former MK Dons has always been the master of his own destiny in this regard.

He can control his own fate and if he works as hard at finding his form again as he does in the gym, there should, in theory, be a revival.
