Well, it was fun while it lasted for Tottenham Hotspur fans.

The Spurs’ faithful were treated to very exciting manager news for much of the week.

The Guardian reported earlier in the week that Tottenham were in talks to hire Antonio Conte as Jose Mourinho’s long-term replacement.

Everything seemed to be going fine and it looked only a matter of time before Conte was announced.

But The Guardian reported last night that talks between the 51-year-old and the North Londoners had broken down.

It’s been close to two months since Tottenham sacked Mourinho and now chairman Daniel Levy is right back at square one, after also missing out on Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann.

According to The London Evening Standard, the Lilywhites could resume talks with Mauricio Pochettino or go back to Erik Ten Hag of Ajax.

The whole thing is a bit of a mess and here’s how former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara reacted to last night’s development on Twitter:

Back to Poch?

If you’re Pochettino, you might not be that bothered anymore.

Not only have Tottenham already sacked the Argentine once, but Conte was clearly a preferred option over the Paris Saint-Germain coach.

If Pochettino does join the North Londoners once again, he won’t have been their first choice – that much is obvious – and it seems unlikely that the South American coach’s pride will allow him to endure that.
