Boyhood Tottenham fan & ex-Premier League striker, Clinton Morrison, has told BBC Radio 5 Live (09/09/20 at 9:25 pm) that he has to back Arsenal over their neighbours ahead of the new season.

The former Crystal Palace player thinks Spurs need a ‘couple more players’ to compete, whilst he praised Mikel Arteta for the job he is doing at the Emirates and thinks they have ‘a lot of good players’ at the club.

Whilst Arsenal’s league position last season was one of their worst in many years, they ended the campaign pretty well by winning the FA Cup and then following it up by beating Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Former Republic of Ireland striker, Morrison, was asked who he thinks is going to have the better season in North London and he reluctantly said he’s in ‘Arsenal’s camp’.

“I’m a Tottenham fan, so I am obviously going to say Tottenham,” Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live. “But if I’m not a Tottenham fan then it’s a difficult one to be fair.

“Arsenal have made some good signings. I like Gabriel, I think he’s going to be a very good signing. He’s strong and comfortable on the ball. There were a lot of other clubs interested in him. They have also signed Willian. I think they have got a lot of good players there Arsenal. They looked good against Liverpool and that’s credit to Arteta.

“At the moment, I think Tottenham fans will be a little worried. They have done good business, in particular, Matt Doherty. He’s a really good signing. We have seen him as a wing-back for Wolves. Will Spurs play three centre-halves with him as wing-back? I haven’t really seen much of him as in a four.

“But I just believe Tottenham need a couple more players to compete. At the moment, I want to be in Arsenal’s camp and that hurts me to say that.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings

  1. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

    £15 million; Southampton

  2. Joe Hart

  3. Matt Doherty

    £13 million; Wolves

  4. Sergio Reguilon

    £25 million; Real Madrid

  5. Gareth Bale

    Loan; Real Madrid

  6. Carlos Vinicius

    Loan; Benfica

  7. Joe Rodon

    £12 million; Swansea

Both Spurs and Arsenal have done business during this window, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Gabriel, respectively, being their most expensive purchases, thus far.

It will be interesting to see whether they make more moves during this window because both clubs could do with polishing and adding more quality to their squad.

Tottenham could do with another striker to add competition for Harry Kane, whilst the Gunners are now piling up the players in defence, but perhaps need that number six to come in and hold everything together.
