Declan Gallagher could leave Motherwell when his contract expires this summer, manager Graham Alexander tells the Daily Record of the reported Celtic target.
With all due respect to West Brom, Burnley, Aberdeen and co – all of whom have been linked with the Scotland international in recent times – they are hardly Gallagher’s number one choice.
Instead, that honour goes to a Celtic side in the market for a commanding, rock-solid centre-back.
The Hoops are Gallagher’s boyhood club, after all.
And, according to TEAMtalk, the 30-year-old’s head has been turned by the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream come true at Parkhead.
Motherwell boss Alexander has not given up hope of keeping his captain at Fir Park but knows that, with Gallagher’s contract running down, the decision is out of his hands.
“He is out of contract in the summer,” said the former Salford City and Scunthorpe manager.

“When the time is right, if he wants to have a conversation with us then we are open to doing that, but in January when I last spoke to him about this it was very much up in the air.
“I’m an optimist but I’m a realist as well because I know he will have suitors.
“He’s a good player and in the current international squad and if we were trying to sign him and he had no other suitors then I’d be wondering why we’d be (trying to keep him).
“Him having other clubs interested is fully expected from our position.
Gallagher actually started his professional career at Celtic but failed to make a single first-team appearance in green and white before joining Clyde in 2011.
So the phrase ‘unfinished business’ comes to mind.
