Ally McCoist has been speaking to Chris Sutton about Kyogo Furuhashi, after Celtic recorded a 3-2 win in the Europa League on Thursday.

What’s the story?

Well, despite his love for Rangers, McCoist admitted that he loves Kyogo, who is working wonders for the Gers’ bitter rivals this season.

Speaking to Sutton on BT Sport, the 59-year-old said: “Oh, listen, I love him. By the way, I’ve got to say, I’m criticising the Celtic medical team about the lack of information that came out over the weekend about Kyogo’s health.

‘I’m a Rangers man, but I was genuinely concerned about his welfare.”

As you can see, McCoist couldn’t help but joke about the incident involving Kyogo and Ayo Obileye, in which the 26-year-old was slapped on the back of his head.

It obviously wasn’t right from Obileye, although it didn’t look strong enough of a smack to make Kyogo hit the deck, which is perhaps why McCoist opted to make his tongue-in-cheek dig.

So far this season, the 10-cap Japan international has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances.

Without a doubt, Kyogo has been the best player in Scotland since his £4.6m move from Vissel Kobe.

Celtic need more like Kyogo

After the success of Kyogo, it is now extremely tempting for Celtic to dip back into the J1 League market.

There are a few players on the radar, one being Daizen Maeda who is doing extremely well for Yokohama F. Marinos.

According to The Times, Celtic are confident of getting a deal done for the 24-year-old, who scored 18 goals this season in Japan’s top-flight.

If we were Ange Postecoglou, we’d view the J1 League as a goldmine right now – it would be silly not to take another star from the division.

If Maeda, and others, come to Parkhead and play anything like Kyogo is, the Bhoys will absolutely cruise their way to the Scottish Premiership title.
