There’s no doubt that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has played an enormous role in Tottenham Hotspur’s early-season heroics.

Spurs look to be bonafide Premier League title contenders and the former Southampton midfielder has played a big part in that.

Tottenham’s midfield looks a lot more solid since the Denmark international was signed for a bargain £15 million in the summer.

In fact, Hojbjerg has played every minute of the Lilywhites’ 12 Premier League outings so far, illustrating that Jose Mourinho clearly has a lot of trust in him.

Mourinho said during the week that this is a player who Tottenham have probably needed for years, but one man who has been surprised by his adaptation is Mark Schwarzer.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live during this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, the former Chelsea goalkeeper has admitted that he simply didn’t expect Hojbjerg to be this influential, this early.

He said: “Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has definitely played a big part in Spurs’ transformation. He has a control in the midfield and gives the back four more protection. He covers his position in front of the back four well, he reads the game well.

“We’re starting to get more of an insight into him now at Spurs. At Southampton he went under the radar a bit so I’m surprised how well he’s done this season.”
