Jamie Redknapp has lauded Eric Dier and stated that he is a ‘big fan’ of the Tottenham defender, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/12/21 at 7:40 pm).
The former midfielder added that during Tottenham’s struggles Dier has ‘stood up to be counted’ for his side.
Under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and now Antonio Conte, he has been a bit of a favourite.
The 27-year-old may have lost his place in the England squad recently, but he is getting his form back to start the talk of a possible return to international football.
Dier is being used in a back three by Conte, and despite his mistake yesterday against West Ham, he has been a top-performer since the Italian’s arrival, in fact, all season long.
Sky pundit Redknapp praised what he is seeing from Dier and shared what he does ever so well.
“I am a big fan of his and I always have been,” said Redknapp. “I think he has stood up to be counted.
“I think there were a lot of players that didn’t perform under Jose and didn’t perform under Nuno. I have always liked him. I have liked him as a midfield player when Spurs were successful under the Pochettino era.
“I think this system suits him when he plays in the middle because he has a lovely range of passing. He gets the right amount of movement moving forward.”

At this moment in time, Dier has Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez alongside him in a back three.
But with summer signing Cristian Romero out injured, he will return to the XI as soon as he is back and it will be interesting to see what role he will take up.
The Argentina international won’t replace Dier, but he could dethrone either Davies or Sanchez.
But the harsh reality of that is both Sanchez and Davies have been outstanding for Conte, either way, it’s a headache worth having for the Spurs boss.
