Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (12:30pm, October 2, 2021) that Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was outstanding against West Ham United last weekend.
The former Arsenal star has added what he likes about the Leeds goalkeeper.
The Sky Sports pundit has said that the 21-year-old does not gamble and take unnecessary risks.
Leeds went down 2-1 to West Ham at Elland Road in the Premier League last weekend.
Merson said about Meslier on Sky Sports News (12:30pm, October 2, 2021): “He was outstanding, absolutely outstanding. 21 for a goalkeeper is no age.
“The older you get the better you get. He was outstanding, he made some great saves.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “What I like about him is he doesn’t gamble. He doesn’t go, ‘I am going to guess he is going to go that way’.”

Illan Meslier is a gem
Meslier has established himself as a key figure at Leeds and is the first-choice goalkeeper in head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
And he is only 21.
The Frenchman cost Leeds £5 million in transfer fees, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.
We can safely say that Meslier is now worth much much more.

There is no surprise that Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sign the youngster in the summer of 2021.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay reported in July that PSG ‘took a genuine interest in Meslier before signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan’.
PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino would have known about Meslier from his time in England as the manager of Tottenham.
Praise from pundits such as Merson and interest from clubs as big as PSG show that Leeds have a gem in Meslier.
