Tottenham Hotspur losing at Chelsea on Sunday won’t have boosted their prospects of keeping Antonio Conte, it has to be said.

The Lilywhites lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge – his former home – as Spurs missed an opportunity to move fourth in the Premier League standings.

It was been reported that the Italian manager is frustrated by Tottenham’s failure to sign players during the January transfer window, with some concerns even as extreme as questioning whether the 52-year-old could quit the English outfit.

Remember, Conte only took the job as recently as November but it is suggested that he only accepted the role on the basis that he’d be given a strengthened squad this month, which hasn’t happened yet.

Results have been relatively solid since the former Blues and Inter Milan manager came aboard but, even still, there’s a sense that he might not stick around for very long unless he is satisfied.

Antonio Cassano, a former Italy international, has certainly bought into that theory, with the 39-year-old predicting that Conte will be gone at Tottenham by July of 2023 at the latest, claiming he could take the AC Milan position.

He told BOBO TV on Twitch: “It occurred to me: I’m convinced that not now, but July 2023, I don’t know why, I don’t know anything, I see him at AC Milan. I’ll say it: in July 2023, I see Conte at AC Milan. Sooner or later, these Milan owners will have to make a gamble.”

Unforgiveable

Tottenham must not, under any circumstances, mess this up.

As high-profile an appointment as Jose Mourinho was, the Portuguese has been a declining force in managerial terms for years.

Conte, however, won a Serie A title as recently as last May.

Simply put, his stock at the time of joining Tottenham was very high, to the point where he could be considered one of their biggest appointments oin history.

This is a world-class football manager and the supporters will never forgive Daniel Levy if his failure to back him financially leads to Conte walking away.
