Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to hammer Mikel Arteta’s decision to name Rob Holding as captain for today’s clash against Everton.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing due to a tight calf, the former Bolton man was handed the honour of being captain.

It was quite a bold move from Arteta, seeing as a senior figure in 33-year-old David Luiz was also named in the starting XI.

However, the Spaniard placed his trust in Holding, much to the annoyance of some Arsenal supporters below.

Regardless of their thoughts, Arteta’s decision represents a huge landmark for the centre-back in the resurgence of his career at the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mail revealed that Arteta performed a U-turn on Holding’s future, after he was initially prepared to let him leave north London.

However, since impressing in the Community Shield win over Liverpool and the opening day win over Fulham, the defender has nailed down a first-team place.

The 25-year-old has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the north Londoners this season.
