Manchester City legend Shaun Goater has claimed he will speak to the father of Erling Haaland to persuade him to join the Premier League club.

Speaking to the Sun, the former Cityzens star revealed that he will get on the phone with Alf-Inge Haaland to lure his son to Manchester. Goater played alongside the Norwegian during their time together at City.

As per the report, Haaland could be available this January for just £65m. The attacker is arguably the most prized asset in Europe heading into 2022. With multiple clubs all eyeing the 21-year-old superstar.

With City needing a striker, Haaland appears to be an ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s side. And Goater is not only eager for his old club to sign the attacker, but he has vowed to assist with the transfer by contacting the player’s father and his former teammate.

Goater said: “If they need me to talk to Alf, I’ll do what I can. He’d be an exceptional buy as he’s young, his scoring record in Europe is phenomenal and I think he’d adjust to the Premier League easily.”

The City legend added when asked about his opinion on Haaland: “He played against City in the Champions League last season. And his pace was frightening. Wow. I hope City are strongly looking at him with Kane and Ronaldo in the past.”

Indeed, competition for Haaland will be tough for City. Real Madrid are of course keen on the attacker. With the usual suspects Bayern Munich and Liverpool also keen to sign the young striker.

Yet with Haaland’s father having a very close connection to City, the Premier League champions could have a shot at landing the attacker in 2022.
