Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing that Rafa Benítez could replace Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.
The Toffees are looking for a new boss after the Italian dramatically left Goodison Park to re-join Real Madrid yesterday.
Now, after leaving Dalian Yifang, Benítez has emerged as a target according to The Athletic.
He’s also – clearly – a popular choice amongst pundits, with Jamie Carragher under the impression that the Spaniard would be a great fit.
That is despite his association with Liverpool.
Why does this concern Newcastle, you might ask?
Well, of course, Benítez walked away from Newcastle once his contract ended, after finding it difficult to work with Mike Ashley.
Everton hiring Benítez would be painful for Newcastle fans
Now, if he is hired by one of the Premier League’s better clubs with lofty ambitions, the Newcastle fans will surely be annoyed.
If he’s good enough for Everton, surely it was worth Ashley trying a bit harder to keep him on Tyneside.
It would certainly be a painful appointment to watch for some Magpies fans, especially as Steve Bruce currently holds the reins at Newcastle.
Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see what reception he gets at St James’ Park if he does take the Everton job.
