Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is hoping Everton stay in the Premier League ahead of the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, as he posted on Instagram.

Everton will take on their neighbours at Anfield hoping to upset Liverpool’s Premier League title charge – and with it, boost their own survival chances.

The Toffees, who have Frank Lampard in the dugout, have only won once at Liverpool since the turn of the century – last season behind-closed-doors.

It’s an abject record for the team and it’s not helped by the fact that they are hovering above the Premier League’s relegation zone, whilst their rivals are chasing all four trophies.

Nonetheless, ahead of that game, Liverpool legend, Carragher, was filming live from Anfield and he shared these thoughts.

“Big Merseyside derby,” said Carragher. “Obviously I hope Liverpool win the game.

“But I do hope Everton stay up because I don’t want to have derby games for the next 12 months, maybe more. Who knows?! That’s certainly what I will be saying on the TV today.”

This could prove to be a recipe for disaster for Everton because they could be well and truly ripped apart here.

Liverpool’s attack is performing at such high standards that even on an off-day they can probably wheel away with a few goals.

The last thing Everton needed was a Merseyside derby and that at Anfield, but it’s what they have to deal with.

And as unrealistic as it might be for them, they have to think about causing an upset because it would be one of the biggest in recent years if it happens.
