The Porto goalkeeper could be a fantastic summer addition for West Ham United.
Casillas in action during his Real Madrid days
Spanish legend Iker Casillas could be available for free this summer, with Porto still yet to activate their option of extending his current deal for another year.
At 36, the former Real Madrid star’s best days are arguably behind him, but his vast experience of playing at the highest level means that he still has a lot to offer.
The Hammers are in desperate need of a top-class goalkeeper, and Casillas could be just the man to help bring a certain level of stability and authority to their back-line.
Spain’s goalkeepers David de Gea and Iker Casillas
The 167-capped Spain international enjoyed a fine season with the two-time European Cup winners, conceding just 22 goals in 41 outings, highlighting impressive levels of both consistency and athleticism.
Whilst many West Ham fans will be expecting Slaven Bilic to bring in players in their prime this summer, surely the acquisition of someone with Casillas’ standing within the game would be welcomed with open arms by the Hammers faithful.
The two goalkeeping options currently at the Croatian’s disposal are simply not good enough, with Darren Randolph and Adrian both prone to making mistakes which have eventually proven to be costly.

And Casillas would undoubtedly represent an upgrade on the Hammers pair.
The Porto stopper has kept himself in fantastic shape, and has retained his cat-like reflexes, despite his advancing years.
There will surely be a lengthy queue for Casillas’ signature, should Porto decide against activating their option of extending his contract for another year, and the draw of the Premier League could give West Ham the upper hand in the race.
And if Bilic manages to convince the Spaniard to move to the London Stadium, his know-how and winning mentality could help take the Hammers to another level.
