Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Manchester City forward.
According to a report from the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, and a recent story regarding the Nigerian makes for interesting reading in light of Spurs’ alleged interest.
Last month, when it seemed to be a straight fight between Leicester City and West Ham United for the player’s signature, Own Goal Nigeria claimed the Foxes were in the box seat because they had guaranteed Iheanacho his favoured position in the starting line-up.
That is believed to be behind a main striker – in this case Jamie Vardy – with the report claiming the youngster prefers to run into the space created by an out-and-out forward, watching the game play out in front of him before seizing his chance.
If Tottenham do make a move, Harry Kane would be the main main, but behind him Spurs already have the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son, who can all take advantage of the chaos caused by the England international to score their fair share of goals.
Iheanacho is a superb talent, but he is not going to want to swap one bench for another, and unless Tottenham can offer him a regular starting spot he would surely favour a move elsewhere.
Alli is undroppable, while Son proved his worth in emphatic fashion last season. That leaves Eriksen, who continues to have his critics at Tottenham but who would be sorely missed if he did ever leave.
That said, the sheer number of games Spurs will play next season means rotation will be key, and if Iheanacho alternated between replacing any one of the three players who operate behind Kane, while also getting rests himself, it could work a treat.
A Kane and Iheanacho strike partnership could be devastating. But only time will tell if it becomes a reality.
